Circulation from Owen Poplett, Secretary PSUK Sailing Section

Hi All,

Hopefully, you are all aware the PSUK Offshore Sailing National Championships is being run in the Solent between Monday 11th May and Friday 15th May 2026 with boat allocation during the afternoon / evening of Sunday 10th May.

The boats are the Fairview Sailing matched fleet of Beneteau Oceanis 37’s.

So far four teams have reserved a boat.

If you are intending to enter a team, can you please contact Prue at Fairview Sailing and reserve your boat. They do not need payment yet, but they do need to know how many boats we require so they can release the remaining boats for general charter bookings. I also need to know so Andrew and I can progress the booking of the other regatta related matters.

If you intend to compete, please contact Prue Nash at Fairview Sailing ASAP prue@fairviewsailing.co.uk or telephone 02380457023.

Twelve boats were originally set aside, there are eight remaining.

Once I know which teams have reserved a boat, I will arrange a TEAMS meeting to discuss what teams want in the way of racing and shoreside events.

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas.

Circulation from Owen Poplett, Secretary PSUK Sailing Section

Dear all,

The 2026 PSUK Offshore Sailing National Championships will take place between Monday 11th May and Friday 15th May 2026, the boats will be the matched Beneteau Oceanis 37’ yachts chartered from Fairview Sailing on The Hamble. Racing will be based out of Cowes subject to a Skippers discussion prior to entry forms and sailing instructions being circulated.

The cost of the yacht charter will be £2099.00p per boat which will include spinnakers and fuel.

It is proposed to have a Skippers meeting via TEAMS at the end of November to discuss the format of the week, until those decisions have been made, we will not be able to provide an entry fee cost but we will be trying to maintain or reduce the cost from 2025.

If you propose to enter the regatta, please email me ASAP to let me know so I can arrange the TEAMS meetings and obtain some costings on various options prior to the meeting.

Fairview have set aside twelve boats so please contact them ASAP to reserve your boat as it will be a first come first served basis and Fairview will need to release boats for general charter if you have not reserved one.

To reserve your boat please contact Prue NASH at Fairview Sailing Tel: 02380 457 023, email prue@fairviewsailing.co.uk

As in previous years it is hoped we will be able to get on the boats during the evening of Sunday 10th May 2025, racing will take place on Monday to Thursday with boats returned to Fairview on the Friday morning.

In 2025 we had ten teams, and all had an enjoyable week of racing and socialising, it would be great if we could increase the number of teams.

I look forward to receiving your expressions of interest.

I am looking to promote the MPSC among our County Colleagues and wider Emergency Services.

I am hoping to involve the club boats in some more racing next year including Round The Island Race and Cowes Week (200th Year).

We are also hoping to take part in the Little Ships Club Fast Cruises this year and I will need a CADRE of qualified MPSC Skippers to assist.

Both yachts are now registered on the RYA/RORC YTC Rating List.

A face from the past.

I've just received an email - as follows:-

I am writing to you because I am the grand-daughter of Peter (Percy) Phillips who I am hopeful that you will remember. Grandad turns 90 in early May and I am trying to contact people from his life to get either a small video clip or written message to him as he reaches this landmark. You wrote an article about him some time ago so I thought of you as someone who may wish to contribute!
Charlotte

I first met Peter when he arrived at the Queen Mary Sailing Club representing Devon & Cornwall Police for the very first Police National Laser Championship in 1979. I followed his sailing life and subsequently wrote an article on  Peter Phillips  which also appears in the 'Reports & Stories' section of this website.

Peter stays pretty well considering his age and if there's anyone else out there who remembers Peter or would like get a message to him please contact Barnacle Bill and I will forward the message to Charlotte.

Savvy-Navvy Free Offer to Emergency Workers

Hi All,

Savvy-Navvy, the navigational app, are offering their top package to emergency workers free for a year, it does sound to good to be true but a couple of us have tried it and it worked.

When you apply you do need to upload evidence of being an emergency worker, I heavily redacted my latest payslip and that was accepted without question. It goes without saying images of police warrant cards or staff ID cards must not be used.

I am not promoting Savvy-Navvy as I have read mixed reviews about it, but equally I thought many of you may like to make use of the offer. The link is below.

Emergency Services

I hope to see many of you in May.

Cheers

Circulation received from Cheshire Police Sailing Section regarding this year's PSUK Dinghy Sailing Championships:

Greetings fellow sailors,

Happy New Year to you all.

This year, the PSUK National Dinghy Championships is moving a little north and west, returning to Winsford Flash Sailing Club for the event on the 11th and 12th June 2025. I think it is about 20 odd years since it was here last.

We hope to pick up where Olly and Harvey left off using their format of all-inclusive catering and excellent bar tending to ensure it’s a fab few days. Obviously, the weather will be sublime and the wind perfect!

The club has several boats available for very reasonable hire, including Tera; Topper; Laser, Comet, Feva, Vision, GP14 and for those more experienced, a Supernova. Please let me know what you’d like to hire asap. The lake is somewhat smaller than Shustoke so please contact me if you have any doubt about size of boat-v-lake!

Booking will be via the WFSC website shortly. ( https://www.winsfordflashsailing.com/booking )

Prices remain the same as last year. The only change is that for those that don’t fancy camping, HQ is only a mile or so away, so I have secured 18 single (I know) ensuite bedrooms for £10pppn). Please let me know asap what accommodation you require, and we can ensure everyone is catered for. Don’t worry, I have also secured a vehicle to ensure you can check the bottoms of all barrels available! B&B’s are somewhat lacking in the area, but there are a few that I can recommend if you need them. Please email me!

I’ve attached a poster that can be shared with force Sports and Social Clubs, also in your own sailing club, just in case there are any sailing under our radar.

If you have any contacts with police sailors that didn’t come last year, please let them know as they may not get this email. Also, if you have any contacts in northern forces, could you pass them on or give them mine? It would be great to continue to grow the fleet again this year if we can.

I’m sure there will be more emails as we get nearer to the summer, but if you have any questions, please message me and I will hopefully be able to help.

Fair Winds to all, looking forward to seeing you in June.
