The Sussex Police Open Dinghy Regatta will take place at Lancing Sailing Club on Wednesday, 16th August, 2017.

It's a week later so they have more suitable tides for the event. The Lancing SC calendar has it named as the Summer Regatta as they remain very supportive of holding the event and the local club's participation continues to make the event viable.

Also Lancing SC are holding two 'taster' events. Turn up, kit provided and try sailing in different boats. Whilst designed as a membership event for Lancing, this could be a good opportunity for any prospective police members interested in taking part. The dates are Saturday 20th May and Saturday 12th August (weekend before police event).

Dorset Police Open Dinghy Regatta

With the imminent retirement from the Police Service of the current organiser, the annual Dorset Police Dinghy Regatta at Poole Yacht Club will no longer take place.

This is likely to be the permanent situation.

My thanks to Rob Gillespie and Paul Smith who, over these recent years have taken on the responsibility for organising such a splendid police regatta. Others including Bryan Tucker, Malcolm Palmer, Stuart Regler also Ivor Graham & Mike Millard who provided such great pictures. Also John Yonwin and Poole Yacht Club who always made as feel so very welcome.

With the demise of police sailing participation in general and the lack of serving personnel coming through to take over the reins, this is another event unlikely to be held in the near future.

A message from Laura..

Hi everyone.

It is now just over a month before the North British Police and PSUK National Sailing Championship 2017.

Thank you to everyone that has sent registration forms in - it's shaping up to be a good event.

I really need numbers of participants for all the caterers - they're tightening down this year and require accurate numbers upfront. I know there's a history in this event of just turning up at the last minute but I'm afraid, if you do that, I won't be able to guarantee catering for you. If you haven't already, can you please let me know if you're intending to come and get back to me with (even estimated) crew numbers by Monday 8th May at the latest? If you're not sure if you're coming, or of your crew, please just let me know so I can accommodate this. Also, if you are not intending to stay for/join in with any of the group meals - please let me know? I also need details of any dietary requirements.

Can anyone who has trophies from previous years please arrange for them to get to Troon for the prize giving. Could you also please let me know which trophies you are returning? Thanks.

After next week, there is a strong possibility that I won't be at work before the regatta. I should still be available on my personal email -  but I can't guarantee I will check it every day. Please try and let me know of any questions/issues/answers by the end of next week.

Thanks
Laura

A message from the NCA Sailing Committee..

We are running the event from Sunday, 24th September to afternoon of Friday, 29th, 2017.
We have chosen the Fairview fleet.
We have set the tone of the Regatta as a friendly social event welcoming new skippers and novice sailors.
We meet Sunday evening and put on a free hot buffet at Banana Wharf.
We berth in Cowes Yacht Haven for the rest of the week and use the Island Sailing Club for a free curry on Monday night and Regatta Dinner on the Thursday.
Charter fees include berthing and fuel.
Socially it seems to attract a wide group and from different agency's. We hope to have a number of the other government departments with us again this year, and possibly a CPS and American Embassy entrants. In previous years the Dutch have also entered.
The cost is about £265 per person which includes the above, but not insurance or hire of wet weather gear.
Fairview provide us a great service and take a rib over each evening to fix and deal with any yacht issues. Previously they have provided a skipper (for a fee) when we had more entrants than skippers.

See NCA INVITATIONAL REGATTA page for Notice of Race and contact details.

A message from Jon Bancroft, Devon and Cornwall Sailing Section:

Devon and Cornwall Regatta on Saturday, 30th September at Brixham YC

We have our highly competitive regatta this year in Brixham which is famous for its pirates….

We have got about 15 yachts available that regularly race in the IRC/NHC fleets so if you would like to be part of the day and evening fun please let us know.

It is £10 per head for the day and if you are coming as a crew please indicate it on the form. Sorry for the short notice but we are trying a new format this year with the owners on the boats as part of the crew.

We have about 35 people taking part already.

Best of luck to the teams in ICCA event.

Please feel free to give me a call or complete and send in the application.

Cheers

Jon

The organiser, Franjo Stancin tells me the dates for the next Police World Sailing Championships in 2018 should be available in a few weeks..

And a message from Franjo:-

 Dear Friends and colleagues,

ICCA 2017 is over, and I hope you had a great time in Dalmatia. We were very lucky with weather and wind conditions. I'm glad "Bora" was friendly with us, because you/we don't want to meet her in full power ;-). So, next week I have some meetings with charter companies about World Police Sailing Championship 2018, and I will need your initial enrolments to get the number of the crews to start negotiations. The boats will be 3.cabins Bavaria 41 C, or S, all 2017/18 with spinnaker.

Please send your initial enrolments as soon as possible. Thank you and see you next year in Dalmatia again.

A message from Scotland

Hi All,

I have accepted a job with Devon and Cornwall Police and will be moving down south in the New Year so will no longer be in a position to organise the North British Police Sailing Championship. I have tried to find someone to take over the running of it but I'm afraid that I have failed and SPRA will no longer be hosting this event.

I would like thank you all for your support over the 29 years this event has been running and the 4 years that I have been running it. It has always been a fantastic week and I will miss it - and all of you - greatly.

I wish you all well and hope our paths cross in the future.

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Laura
