PSUK Sailing Section

A.G.M.

28th October, 2009 Thames Valley Force HQ, Kidlington Hall

– These are not the Minutes….

A poor attendance for the AGM with the both of the Organisers of next year's regattas unable to attend but, there being 6 present - the Sailing Section's Constitution requiring a quorum of 4 - the meeting continued. There were few Regions represented at the meeting.

The minutes from the EGM held in Feb regarding the Section's Constitution, were considered. The Constitution currently requires only 2 weeks notice of the annual AGM. This was amended at the meeting to 6 weeks notice with the next AGM probably taking place in the first two weeks of October, 2010 due to the Section's annual financing requiring to be submitted to PSUK by 31st October.

The following Officers/committee members were re-elected to the committee chaired by the CC of Thames Valley, Sara Thornton:

Helen Neaverson (Notts) remains Secretary
Louise Dixon (Strathclyde) Treasurer
Richard Sivers (Northants) co-opted

Louise Nixon provided the Treasurer's report.
Various applications will be made for financial support from the parent organisation including hosting both the PSUK Dinghy and PSUK Offshore Championships also British Police representation during 2010 by both Dinghy and Offshore champions.

Stuart Jenkins (Met) reported on this year's Dinghy Championships held at Netley Sailing Club which attracted 14 competitors for the Laser Day and 27 dinghies for the Handicap event. Entry fees reflected the high charge required by the host sailing club but financial support from PSUK plus generous sponsorship of the prizes by 'Impact' ensured that income/expenditure for the event virtually balanced out. Excluding the raffle, which raised £291 for the Anthony Nolan Trust, the event cost £2,700 to run.

Stuart also reported on the Dinghy Consultative meeting held this year.

2010 - Avon & Somerset (June 9/10/11)
2011 - Leicestershire (now re-arranged for 13-15th September with a view to testing out a new Championship date for the following year - Olympic year)
2012 - West Midlands

At this year's Dinghy Consultative meeting there was an AOB item regarding 'Awards of Excellence'. Richard Sivers presented a report based on the PSUK criteria for Awards. Regarding our current application for Pete Walters (Notts) to receive an Award, he qualifies for consideration as he has 'Three consecutive PSUK championship wins’ – in the Offshore Championships. He has not had 3 consecutive wins in the Dinghy Championships. Since the Dinghy Championships started (1970's) there have been some who would have met the criteria. It was decided that these are now several years ago and more, therefore inappropriate to be considered as police dinghy sailors currently active in PSUK Dinghy Championships to qualify to be considered for an Award. Nevertheless the committee will be endeavouring to raise the profile of PSUK Sailing and review the position annually.

Reports also were received from:

The current nomination for Pete Walters (Notts) to receive an Award is being forwarded by the committee to PSUK; as having three consecutive PSUK Offshore Championship wins. However, over these recent wins there has been a hardcore of 4 or so crew members and advice from the PSUK Office will be sought to ascertain whether members of the Notts team can be considered for a Team Award.

The content of the above reports taken by the author
is not intended to be the official minutes of the meetings,
