Northants Police Sailing Section's  - RS Vision

Try Sailing
All members of your Police Sailing Section are passionate about sailing and would be only too pleased to take you and your family for a sail in our recently acquired  'RS Vision' dinghy and share this wonderful experience with you especially if it's your first.

The Dinghy is available for use by paid-up members of the Force Sports Club. In order to avoid any duplication, it is advisable to 'book' the dinghy via the Sailing Secretary, Ben Fathers.

Care should be taken and any breakages, repairs required or incidents of note should be reported to the Sailing Secretary or the Section's Bosun, Paul Beard.

The Instruction Book regarding rigging the dinghy can be found in one if the sailing bags on the boat. Alternatively, view/download the RS Vision manual.

The boat cover has seen better days but should suffice with care this first season.

There are two ways of putting the boat away after use:-

  1. Boom Down. This requires undoing the boom vang (GNAV). Note that when re-fitting that there is a correct way to secure it at the mast end (see below).
  2. Boom Up. This allows the boom vang (GNAV) to be retained fixed with the mast. The mainsheet will have to be de-rigged to allow the cover to be put in position.

The GNAV (VANG backwards)

At the moment (20/6/11) the GNAV itself (or Boom Vang to you) is literally 'upside-down'.

Reference to the Instruction book indicates the correct way to fit it, should it needed to be re-connected, as follows:

Sails:
A this stage (i.e., during the summer/sailing months) the sails can be left in the boat.

When putting the boat away, the furling jib should be dropped and put away under the cover to avoid deterioration from sun, weather, etc.

The spinnaker should also be de-rigged as the wildlife is evidently inclined to nest & nibble anything left in the chute.
